.....entrepreneurial spirit

Europe faces some problems nowadays with a lack of entrepreneurial spirit....whatever the reason may be.

The land of opportunities, the American Dream, where everything is possible if you just simply set yourself to it. And winning awards seems to be a daily occupation for the toddlers, the Disney family also wants to contribute to this:

A link posted on Mother Nomad directed me to this site:

I have to admit that this is a very entertaining game, it just seems to be a bit awkward to "educate" children on marketing campaign, margins and sales strategies. It might explain why MBA's are so popular in the States. If you start with children at age 6, then a MBA for them is probably something divine and an ultimate goal.

Sometimes they just take it one step too far.......but that's me speaking from the Old World.

The end of the end.......and Beginning of the Beginning

Yesterday was part of the reason why I have not been that actively publishing on 'this online-philip newspaper'.

Yesterday marked the end of a fantastic period: student life. I handed in the Master's thesis!!!

Because it is one out of very few projects that students have to undertake themselves, it is quite a challenging assignment. And I actually enjoyed doing it, don't know whether it was because of the 'young man's' friendly surrounding of malted barley, hops and water or the assignment itself..It was a good exercise in independently composing something yourself using people's previous work and adding a modest contribution to the academic field.

Besides finishing this, it is also the first time that you can -really- decide what you are going to do. School & study are for most students a continuous period added with other things they like to do. But now, I can sit on a bench in the park, I can start painting, I can fly around the world, I can start my own business, I can basically do anything I like to do! And that........that is quite a good feeling.

Beyond the English language

With the courtesy of BBC News: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4248494.stm

"English is a rich and innovative language. But you can't help feeling we're missing out.
While English speakers have to describe the action of laughing so much that one side of your abdomen hurts (hardly an economical phrase), the Japanese have the much more efficient expression: katahara itai.
Of course, the English language has borrowed words for centuries. Khaki and croissant are cases in point.
So perhaps it's time to be thinking about adding others to the lexicon. Malay, for instance, has gigi rongak - the space between the teeth. The Japanese have bakku-shan - a girl who appears pretty from behind but not from the front. Then there's a nakkele - a man who licks whatever the food has been served on (from Tulu, India)."

The articles itself continues with odd examples in many different languages.
Although they managed to surprise me with the following:

"But it's those fun-loving people in the Netherlands who should have the last word - the phrase for skimming stones is as light-hearted as the action: plimpplampplettere."

I am not quite sure what places the author visited to retrieve these kind of words...he surely made an effort out of it.

Office distraction

Sitting in an office is most of the times relaxing. All facilities are present to ensure that productivity is at an acceptable level. However, there are times that it just doesn't flow.....
Writing my thesis among people who work defenitely contributes to my progress. Nevertheless
Fridays can be difficult. This is not a complaint.

Au contraire, its more that I am looking for ways to keep the momentum and type those words.
Fortunately there are people on this globe that help to inspire other people. I found this
website www.strawberryfrog.com which helps me from time to time. Ad agency with a lot of
commercials. Have a look & do let me know what other ideas can be!

The momentum of moving

Moving
When I was moving my stuff from A to B, I started to realize how much unneeded stuff I have. Piles of books and clothes of which I use maybe 10%, and that even spread out over periods (seasonal climate changes, different exams). I always have the desire to live out of a suitcase, which I still believe should contain more than enough to have a decent living. Second to that, moving creates momentum, for a day it is a bit of a hassle, but once I put my suitcase and dozens of other boxes in my new place, I got excited.

Maybe it was because of the new location. Map indicates where I am currently residing.

NEW LOCATION

It sparked my enthusiasm to start writing immediately, I want to read books till late in the night, start painting, start my own shop, be entrepreneurial, start wall climbing & gliding.

And that is all, because I moved my stuff 3 kilometres. Strange isn’t it?

Welcome George W. Bush!!or not.

Last Saturday morning I was at the local hairdresser at my parents’ place in the south of the Netherlands. I asked the hairdresser what she thought of the arrival of the President of the U.S.A. to the little village of Margraten. Throughout the conversation she told me that her parents live in Margraten, and that most people can not be bothered with the visit and find it overdone. Interestingly enough, because Bush’s official reason for visiting was to respect the soldiers for their contribution to VE-day (Victory in Europe) and the close relationship of the local people with the US cemetery.

15.000 soldiers, 2.700 local police officers, 700 of Bush personal Presidential guard are called upon to oversee no dramatic course of events.
On Sunday morning, despite Mothersday, my father and I went to pay homage to those who gave their lives 60 years ago for our freedom at the US cemetery. Together with the Dutch queen and prime minister and Georgie boy. 12 minutes George and off he goes to Russia.

In the mean time in Houston, Texas……..parlementarians are discussing the sexiness of cheerleaders, trying to restrict their sexual suggestive behavior…..the world remains a place full of amusement, whether in Margraten or in Houston!

Global 24/7 Nomad-assistance

One call, two mails............and the Man flew in to get it started.
Could be the most essential part of this community. Where ever, whenever you need
help, it already is on its way! Revival of ghostbusters.
Besides that Amsterdam has welcomed back its long lost son & Teasers is mourning about his all too sudden departure.
Besides this, I am thrilled that things got started from now on. Cheers!
